About Tiia Aurora

Tiia Aurora is a poet and author based in Bochum, Germany. Inspired by the quiet weight of archaeology, history, and the haunting beauty of black-and-white film, she writes speculative fiction that centers on psychological depth. Her work explores the gray areas of human behavior and the fragile boundary between reality and madness.

With a foundation in monument preservation and a career rooted in the early days of Web 2.0, she brings a uniquely grounded, inquisitive perspective to her stories, often examining how our history and technology shape who we are today.

She is currently working on several projects, including a collection of short stories, two novels and her poetry.

Inspirations

Aside from her career background, Tiia draws inspiration from a wide range of sources. Growing up with the classics of Goethe and Schiller, the unapologetic emotional exposure of the Sturm and Drang movement shaped her approach to character development as humans are a mere collection of their emotions and fears.

Having read Stephen King and Anne Rice at an impressionable age, the dark and macabre became a second nature to her. Even though both authors inhabited two different worlds, both used the supernatural as an analogy for human weaknesses and shortcomings.

The intimacy of the late poetry of Sylvia Plath and the contemporary works of Max Prosa shaped her self reflective work. Authentic writing can only come from one self and the ability to be vulnerable on the paper, regardless who may read it.

Genre

Because genres are inherently porous, these terms reflect how I self-identify my work rather than defining strict limitations on the stories I tell.

Cosmic (Heimat) Horror

A blend of local history, folklore, regional landscapes and ancient myths, with the cosmic existential dread of the unknown.

Dark Satire

Sharp, witty, and darkly humorous, often exploring the absurdity of human nature and societal norms. Uncomfortable truths and chaos pair with worst-case scenarios.

Contemporary Political/Social Poetry & Prose

Globally conscious commentary questioning power structures, social injustices, and the consequences for humankind.
